From the first page of the Bible, we find a God who speaks, and whose word has power.
“Let there be light.” These first words spoken by God set the tone for the rest of the Bible.
We’ll never understand God on our own. He’s beyond us. “His thoughts are not our thoughts and his ways are not our ways.”
That’s why God has always made himself known by giving us his words. First through the prophets: “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets.”
And then by sending his Son, Jesus: The word of God. “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. And the Word became flesh and lived among us.”
What Jesus told his first followers is still true today. “If we commit to learning his words and obeying them, we will be his true disciples. And we’ll know the truth and the truth will set us free.”
Let there be light.
