John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
The ancient prophets had foretold that John would come. And his mission was simple: To prepare the way of the Lord. To get people ready for the Messiah.
Repentance is what prepares the way for Jesus. It’s what gets us ready so we can receive him. So what is repentance?
It’s an inner change of heart that leads to an outer change of life.
Isaiah tells us to seek the Lord while he can be found. To call upon him while he is near. That the wicked must forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts so that we can return to the Lord.
It’s a decision to turn away from going through life without God and a conscious choice to start going through life with God.
